Gary Holmes

Hi! I’m Gary Holmes, I’ve been in radio in Central Florida for eight years and hosted VGN for two and a half years. VGN was Central Florida’s ONLY successful show on FM radio to focus on Video Games, Anime and Convention Culture. I’m the consummate professional of the Just Push Play™ group (har har, snicker snicker), having had experience in theater, the big screen, radio, television and more! Always on the look out for a new experience, I’m writing a bunch of the things you see on JPP TV™ and am currently writing a screen play for a short film that’s already causing a bidding war for distribution. How the hell did I manage that?

Although I could get a job back in Radio anywhere I wanted to, and trust me the offerings have been appealing, I love Central Florida. I am committed (and mayhap should be for working with the three other people on my shows…heh) to making this thing we have at the SomaCow Media Network™ work and strive day and night to make North of Center Pop-Culture™ a part of your life. Internet radio has been around for a while, but it’s just now starting to gain some serious attention and I’m here to help those around me make it better. My experience in hosting talk and music programs plus the added experience in programming a station come in handy!

I often change hair colors and sometimes shave my head for character play. I was recently in a movie in post production called “Zombies, Zombies, Zombies” as, well…a zombie. My natural zombie charisma won over the cast and crew, or at least I’d like to think so. It was probably the shoe that was drilled into my head. Check out the trailer, I’m in it! Check out their pics on the main page and you’ll see me with a stripper shoe in my head.

A lover of all things video games, I’ve been playing them for close to two decades. My favorites would have to be the Elder Scrolls series, especially Morrowind and Oblivion.

I’ve been to conventions from Necronomicon to Anime Festival Orlando to Dragon*Con and a lot in between.

I’ve interviewed many famous people in my time, but my favorite interviews have to be me talking to Warren Ellis, Billy West and the inestimable George Lowe.

I’d consider myself a seasoned beer lover and somewhat a snob. Sake too, the cheap stuff will ruin you. Seriously, I drink some beer.

Blackened VooDoo Lager from Dixie Brewing company and Aventinus are acceptable forms of currency in my world.

You can reach me through e-mail at Gary. Hope to see you at the arcade, or tournaments or the many conventions we attend!

At the end of the day, we’re trying to elevate “geek culture” to the nomenclature of North of Center Pop-Culture™ since it’s a much more palatable phrase. It’s an endless battle, but I’m in this for the long haul.
